It's a bookcase! It took me about 20 minutes to assemble, and is made of particle board with a cardboard back panel. They look pretty nice, but I wouldn't recommend filling any of the shelves with heavy binders or textbooks, as they will bend. Stocking it up with lots of heavy things is a very bad idea, as the thing will fall apart. I needed something for my textbooks and binders, and had gotten particle board bookcases before, which never seem to be up to the task for more than a year or so at a time. I got this because the description said wood, but I guess particle board is a kind of wood, and it didn't specify so I got what I paid for, even if it isn't exactly what I wanted. I just place a few textbooks and/or binders on each shelf, and then fill the excess space with knick-knacks to keep the shelves from having too much weight on them, and so far so good!

If you're just getting it for some light display items, or maybe a few novels and such, then it should function perfectly fine. My trouble is just finding heavy-duty shelves for my heavy stuff but staying within a college-student's budget.
