Went to all the major retailers and furniture stores in the metro area of 1.2 million people. Found nothing to replace my 17 year old polished brass "seashell" shroud floor lamp. Yes, I was expecting a price increase, but not sticker shock at the retailers. I then turned to Amazon, and they had over 1,000 styles of floor lamps. I look ed through all of them and chose this one. Make sure you know the specs on your existing floor lamp, it features and where you want to place it and plug it in. I put the same 60 watt CFL blub I had in this new lamp and it works. It has a heavy base to keep it from tipping over. It was shipped, appears and operates as advertised. One drawback: I wish they had put where the off/on switch was i.e. inline, and a floor button you step on. I just reach to the floor, the side of my recliner, and press it with my finger. The lower the lamp is in vertical height the farther away the floor off/on switch can be. At least put the off on switch in the photo and label it. You have to pull the electrical cord through the center shaft, which is all adjustable. The price is just right, too.

After months (years?) of looking for the perfect reading lamp that could also throw indirect light onto the ceiling, we broke down and purchased this Holtkoetter. To say that I had reservations about the price would be an understatement. However, from the moment I started unpacking the box I could tell that this product was a quality level in a class by itself.

First of all, it is heavy - really heavy! The base is rock solid and stays put, even if someone bumps into it. Secondly, the sliding controls are on the lamp, not on the floor like so many of the cheaper models. They are easy to reach and they glide oh, so smoothly! I never realized that there could be such a tactile difference in a lamp control...

Finally, the light is fantastic - at all levels of brightness. The arms are extremely adjustable. It's everything you could want in a reading/accent lamp. No wonder they are so expensive!

We bought two of these: both broke within two weeks. I sat on them maybe a dozen times - one lasted a week longer. I'm only 175lbs. The lever/air piston height adjuster is the problem. They broke and now are in the 'all the way down' position - no longer adjustable. We were very impressed with the look, and build quality - initially. They're very nice looking and reasonably comfortable. Although I would discourage anyone who is not 'thin' or of medium width from buying these. I'm 5'10" and I found the sides dig into the sides of my legs. It's passable but not super comfortable. Disappointing.

I have to confess I bought this lamp a few years ago on a wild sale, but it was one of those items that when I looked at it the first time, I immediately said "gotta have it" and snapped it up.
Everyone who sees this lamp is drawn to it like a magnet, even the guys. It just smacks of quality and artistic style. Even my mod daughter who is into all things wild fell in love with this lamp.
This lamp is a real piece of art, but it has function also. The 3 lamps are set on a dimmer type switch, so you can vary the light from "barely there", all the way to full brightness. All three lamps dim at the same time, you cannot control each individual lamp separately.
This lamp arrived in a really huge box, and was extremely well packed. The globe lamps are glass and I about had a heart attack installing them on the lamp. Each globe fits over a spring wire, and I finally got the hang of pinching the wire while easing the globe over it.
Would I buy it again? In a heartbeat!
