Computer Desk in Black - Coaster Review

For what I paid I am more than happy with this desk. It is plenty big, and very solid. It has a keyboard tray, so that your mouse and keyboard are slightly lower than the rest of the desk, which lets your arms be at the correct angle for comfort. I don't know why this is missing on so many other desks. I don't know if you can tell by the pictures, but there's a gap between the top of the desk and the left/back/right. 5 silver mounting things join the top board with the rest of it, which made me believe I would be able to slide a monitor arm through that gap without trouble. This brings me to the only bad thing I have to say. The board at the back of the desk which joins the left and right sides interferes with monitor arms. The gap under the top board is not big enough. I bought an HP single monitor arm along with this desk, and in order to mount the arm on the back edge of the top board I had to cut a little square off the top of the back board. I don't know if that's understandable. Just know that you will have to cut out some room back there for the clamp that monitor arms have. If you're just plopping your screen as-is on top of the desk you have nothing to worry about, although you will have less desk space. I have the entire top for paperwork and books since the monitor is suspended. :) Very nice. Also, the wooden edge that your wrists/arm rest on as you use the mouse and keyboard is rounded, not square, so that constant motion or rubbing won't peel off the veneers or anything. I like that. The last tiny desk I had was peeling at the edges, but that won't be an issue here. If you don't use the keyboard tray and put your devices directly on the top of the desk, your arms will be on square edges. That might damage the desk over time. Appropriate use with the tray will be fine though. Overall a good budget desk. I really hope I made sense.

Update Feb 2012- It's been some months and the desk is exactly as it was on day one. It's holding up well.
