Product Description

File Cabinet locks are an excellent way to secure your file cabinet contents and comply with HIPAA regulations. The simple to use, easy to install bar securely fastens to the side of any file cabinet (1/2" of space needed next to drawers). Bar has a closed end for added security and a convenient knob for easy and smooth operation. This file cabinet lock can provide a second layer of security to those units with built-in locks or, if your keys are lost, these bars can provide an easy lock replacement system without having to replace the entire cabinet. THIS ITEM REQUIRES THE USE OF A PADLOCK. A padlock is not included, but we recommend the use of an ABUS 55/40 padlock, which is available as keyed-alike and keyed-different. If using your own, make sure it is a 40mm padlock and has a 1/4" shackle diameter.

If you go to 'Computer Security Products' website they describe their '1-drawer' file cabinet bar to be 11" long.

The Amazon description does not specify.

A quick call to Computer Security Products advised me that they ONLY sell the ABUS product and... however long they are.. thats the only length(s) they sell.

Just a heads up. I only went looking on their website because the Amazon description did not specify.

I wanted a bar that would ONLY lock one drawer in the middle of a cabinet without impairing the drawers above and below it.

It WILL lock 1 drawer (but then again so would a 6" bar.) But on many file cabinets it will also prevent either the drawer above or the drawer below (or both, depending on how you mount it) from opening. 11" (as advertised on their site) would have been perfect.

I couldn't seem to find a better option so I had to take a hacksaw to it...

The bar itself is sufficient for a basic lock. It works at least as well as drilling a bigger hole and installing a keyhole/bar lock in the face of the cabinet.

I took off one star because Computer Security Products have an incorrect length posted on THEIR website.

It would be great someone posted a correct length here on Amazon.
